Sculpting inclusion in SOCIETY
Creative , community and promoting a more inclusive society
will be the highlight of a new collaborative art work initiative announced this
month. Due to be unveiled on the at umm al Emirate Park. E11 is a public sculpture
created by 11 youths on the autism spectrum, and is the first of it’s kind of
the country.
The piece created in collaboration with artist Azza Al
Qubaisi and community group Goals UAE. is designed to highlight that inclusion
needs to become an everyday reality.
We need to have more engagement and inclusion across all
sectors of life explained Khawla Barley. Director of Goals UAE. individuals
with intellectual disabilities and Physical disabilities the don’t just need to
go to school or work and come home.
That’s a narrow life. They need to have a identity as a
person. Hosted along side the launch of the permanent sculpture, an exhibition
will showcase canvases painted by local artists of determination as well as
project that has been created over the past year by 1200 community members.
There will also be a host of activates and workshops on offer including art
therapy classes and football coaching.
When I started goals UAE. I felt that the community
want ready to include these individuals,
and starting put with extracurricular activates was very helpful for that

When you have a chiled with special needs, parents tent to
het overwhelmed with interventions, and
sometimes a bit og the child;s humanity gets lost. She emphasized, we want
people to get involved not just with a sumpathetic ear, we want them to truly
engage. We want this to be a community collaboration/
